Working on “Orange Is The New Black” brought one writer to the realization that she is a lesbian, and she’s begun dating a star of the show.
Who says you can’t find love on the job?!
Lauren Morelli recalled in a piece she wrote for Mic.com that she’d spent months writing about the relationship between “OITNB” main character Piper Chapman and her ex Alex Vause helped her to come to terms with the fact that she has a sexual preference for women. The revelation came at a particularly inconvenient time because she had just married a man just a few months prior to discovering her actual sexuality.
“I was nervous about the first love scene I’d written for Alex and Piper,” Lauren wrote in her confessional. “I’d loved writing it, loved watching a tenderness emerge in their relationship where passion always seemed to be the ruling principle, but by that time, I was so deep in my own self-doubt that I constantly felt like a fraud. I was sure it was bleeding into my writing. How could it not? I was married to a man, but I wasn’t straight.”
She didn’t carry on the charade much longer as she and her husband jointly filed for divorce; soon, Samira Wiley (aka Poussey) caught her eye, and they struck up a relationship. It seems that the pair have been together for at least a couple of months because Samira made Lauren her Woman Crush Wednesday on Instagram one week this past June.
In April, Samira openly declared her affection for Lauren on social media with the following picture, writing, “Weekend #turnup w/ @lomorelli!! #success #iloveyougirl.”
Lauren and Samira made their public debut as a couple during the Emmys by holding hands at event and dancing together at a couple of afterparties.
