How did we get to August so fast? Summer is in its last hurrah (insert sad face emoji) and while you’ve been taking Summer Fridays for work and doing beach excursions with your best girlfriends, I don’t want you to forget that your makeup bags and vanities need special summer care too.

MUST READ: 5 Beauty Survival Tips To Get You Ready For Summer Vacation

I chatted with my good friend and celebrity makeup artist, Lucky Smyler and he gave me the best tips ever for keeping our skin red carpet-ready (even if there are no red carpets), how to glow like your favorite celebrity and how to add a little color to your makeup routine before summer is over. Check them out!

Tip #1

I always suggest prepping your makeup with an oil absorbing primer. There are many on the market, but the BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector is the only way to go. You feel the oil being absorbed almost immediately. It allows the makeup to glide on and last while controlling oil and preventing a greasy mess by mid-day.

Tip #2

Blotting papers are an old faithful remedy when an immediate touch-up is needed. If you can, stay away from powder this season; it gives most of us cake face. What most of us don’t realize is that the technology has advanced and has really become quite innovative in the past few years. Boscia makes two kinds of blotting papers that are amazing! The green tea blotting papers have natural antioxidants in them that protect the skin from free radicals in the environment. The charcoal blotting papers, while absorbing the oil without moving the makeup, actually purify the pores at the same time. How great is it when you can have some sort of skin care treatment properties while blotting your T-zone?

Tip #3

Even if we’re oily, most of us want glowy (not greasy) skin this season. MAKE UP FOR EVER’s velvet matte foundation or BECCA’s ever matte shine proof foundation are two great choices to keep your skin controlled and in place. By using a matte foundation you can add a powder or cream luminizer on the parts of the face where you want the glow to be. The skin will remain flawless while the glow beams through a matte canvas.

Tip #4

Fun and punchy eyeshadow colors are the talk of the town this season. Orange, hot pink, yellow, teal, purple…just pick one and you can’t go wrong! The best way to rock this look is with a water-resistant cream shadow. This will keep the color and shape in place without the annoying creasing and oily separation that can take place with oily eye lids and hot summer nights. Try MAKE UP FOR EVER’s aqua matic eye pencil, or Givenchy’s ombre couture cream eye shadows. As an added tip, use a coordinating powder eyeshadow on top of the cream shadow for extreme color payoff and bullet proof staying power.

Tip #5

Bronzed skin is the move this season. I have always been on the hunt for body bronzers that do their job while staying put! Sally Hansen airbrush legs now comes in a cream formula packaged in a tube. It has really great coverage for those that want bronze legs (shh…don’t tell anyone, but I also use this stuff on the arms and décolletage as well). This product has really rich pigments and an array of colors to choose from that actually hide skin imperfections at the same time (think bronze colored foundation for the body). I’ve learned that the easiest way to apply (and the best way to keep clean hands) is with a dampened wash cloth and blend blend blend. In addition, RCK (red carpet kolour) luminous body glow is bullet proof and gives a lot of diamond textured bling. Try layering RCK on the Sally Hansen…flawless!
