Patti LaBelle Is Willing To Sell Shoes To Save “After Midnight”

After reports confirmed that the Broadway run for “After Midnight” will come to an end, Patti LaBelle, who has a starring role in the production, is willing to fight to keep the play alive.

The play pays homage to Duke Ellington and The Cotton Club and includes several energetic musical numbers (Gladys Knight, Patti and Fantasia performed a song from the play during this year’s Tony Awards). In an interview with ABC, Ms. Patti says that she’s worried about what will happen to the cast once the production ends. “My whole worry is to all of those wonderful talents, what will they do after this play?,” Patti asks. “When you see this play, you think it will be here like a Cats or a Wicked, you know, 10 years or something.  This play is so wonderful, so my heart is broken for the cast.  Totally.  And that Gladys Knight won’t get a chance or Natalie Cole won’t get a chance to experience this wonderful play.”

Well Patti is pulling out all the stops to try and keep the play alive, she’s even willing to sell her shoes, hunny! “I’m ready to take buckets after the show when the people are leaving the building and offer a kiss for $5,000 or one of my old shoes or something.”

All jokes aside, we hope this play is saved. We remember how Fantasia shut it down during her performance run.
