THE PROPOSAL

I kept telling Jordan, you have to do something cool because it has to be this big story [laughs].

It was one weekend, maybe last month and my mom had wanted us to go to this event they were having at our church. Being me, I was like, “Ma, I don’t want to go that.” I’m trying to find my way to get out of it. So, my mom asks Jordan:

“Jordan, don’t you want to go to this seminar?”

Jordan: “Yeah, when is it?”

Mom: “Saturday.”

Jordan, making a face: “You know I can’t, I have something to do. I have to pick something up.”

At this point, I’m like, “What do you have to do?” We live together and we schedule everything. When he said he had to pick up something, I had this inclination that he was going to get my ring.

Saturday comes and I’m lying in bed and he’s like, “are you gonna get up?.” I’m like, “To do what?” He was like, “You’re gonna go with me, aren’t you?” We get dressed and go to the ring store. I sat in the car because I didn’t want to be there. That takes the romance out of it [laughs]. About 20 minutes later, he came out the ring store and he had this look on his face that he was extremely happy. He got in the car and said, “I’m so happy, we went over a couple hurdles to get where we are, but I really can’t imagine not spending my life with you and I’m just happy to be in this moment.” Then, he just got quiet. Then, he jumps out and goes to my side of the car, he opens the door, goes down on his knee and asks me if I would marry him and I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. I just sat there for a second because I was in shock and then I just started cracking up laughing.
