The first month of the year is almost done. Be honest with yourself–have you kept up your resolution of eating healthy? It’s ok–I have admittedly slipped up more times than I care to count, but I am still dedicated to making a change to my diet. We all fall down, but we have to get back up again. The Complete Juicer: A Healthy Guide to Making Delicious, Nutritious Juice and Growing Your Own Fruits and Vegetables (Skyhorse Publishing, January 2014) by Abigail Gehring

The Complete Juicer lets you take total control of what you’re putting into your body by teaching you to grow the ingredients for fresh juice in your backyard, in pots, on a windowsill, or even right in your kitchen! Growing your own ingredients is not only cheaper than buying them at the store, but it also enables you to ensure you’re not getting any pesticides or genetically modified ingredients you don’t want.

The Gluten-Free Revolution: A Balanced Guide to a Gluten-Free Lifestyle through Healthy Recipes, Green Smoothies, Yoga, Pilates, and Easy Desserts! (Skyhorse Publishing, January 2014) by Caroline Shannon-Karasik

Based on the premise that simple, whole foods (mixed with a bit of dessert, of course) are the building blocks of any healthy diet, Caroline aims to help readers to find their healthful bliss—that sweet spot where you can relish a green smoothie and have your gluten-free cake, too. To do so, she provides a flexible outline of how readers can work toward their personal goals, covering not just recipes but exercise tips and beauty essentials (including a coffee scrub you can make at home!).

The Paleo Cookbook: 90 Grain-Free, Dairy-Free Recipes the Whole Family Will Love (Skyhorse Publishing, January 2014) by Anna Conrad

Conrad explains the basic mechanics of the hunter-gatherer diet; how to inventory your fridge; the truth about saturated fats; and other tips and tricks to sticking with the paleo diet. Using the concept of green, yellow, and red light foods (foods that are always okay to eat; foods that should be consumed in moderation; and foods to avoid), she makes it easy for readers to create recipes of their own as well. Beginners will love Conrad’s twenty-eight-day paleo challenge, which lays out a month of meals.

Happy cooking!
