Cue meteoric rise to stardom for Cory Booker–the first Black senator from New Jersey to be elected since President Obama won his seat in Illinois in 2004. The 44-year-old Senator was sworn in during a ceremony administered by Vice President Joe Biden. Booker was elected to fill out the term of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who died earlier this year.

While Senator Booker worked as Newark’s mayor, he put 200+ additional officers on the streets, reducing crime and cleaning up Newark’s crime-saturated reputation. The Booker Administration is also responsible for the formation of a Gang & Narcotics Bureau as well as the Fugitive Apprehension Team, which has led to the apprehension of over 2,700 fugitives. If that doesn’t sound a man who deserves our respect, we don’t know what does!

Crime wasn’t the only thing Booker’s Administration championed. Under Booker’s leadership, Newark expanded parks, increased immunization among children, provided resources for disadvantaged children, provided support for formerly incarcerated fathers, provided better education through Charter schools, offered mentorships for Newark’s youth, expanded senior transportation, set up free tax centers for residents, passed prevailing wage legislation (which helps the employee survive by getting paid what they require to live), increased the amount of jobs in Newark as well as affordable housing, among other major improvements for the New Jersey city.

Senator Booker has always been a star as President Obama has previously praised Booker’s efforts as Newark mayor and said that he “has dedicated his life to the work of building hope and opportunity in communities where too little of either existed.” Cory Booker is all the rage and there’s plenty of reasons for you to jump on this bandwagon! (If not for all the amazing work he’s done, then for these reasons.)

Here’s 5 reasons to love Cory Booker:

1. He’s A Good Man

When a Senate Majority Leader says something like, “We’re going to find Cory Booker is going to be a great asset to this nation and the Senate,” you know it’s real. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. is all about Booker in this new position, “We’re very fortunate to have this good man in the Senate. He’ll serve his state and our nation with distinction.”

2. He’s All About #TeamBeautiful Being In His Personal Space

3.  He’s A Family Man

When Booker was sworn in, his mother, Carolyn was right by his side. Booker was also joined at the U.S. Capitol by his brother, Cary and a few other family members. Cory’s family is a strong unit and after losing his father earlier this month to Parkinson’s disease, he could use a major win like this.

4. He Hits The Ground Running

Only after a few short minutes of being a new Senator, Cory participated in his first roll call vote, supporting an attempt by Democrats to advance the nomination of Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C. to head the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Look at Senator Booker, already working!

5. He’s Totally Adorable!

Just look at him!
