Simply stated, Beyonce sales.

Beyonce traded in her microphone and dancing shoes to play the voice of Queen Tara in the new animated flick Epic, and judging by opening weekend sales, it was a great money move.

With the help of Mrs. Carter, the fantasy tale generated $85 million worldwide, 49.8 percent from domestic sales and 50.3 percent from  foreign theaters, according to reports.

Epic also received  “A” grade from CinemaScore and fairly good reviews from critics. Check out what the New York Times had to say below:

As you watch its characters zoom through a lush forest on the backs of hummingbirds, the gorgeous 3-D adventure comedy Epic suggests a warmer, fuzzier Avatar, with a green heart. Directed by Chris Wedge, the movie is a hymn to nature rendered in phantasmagoric detail as refined as anything I’ve seen in a computer-animated family film. But as beautiful as it is, Epic is fatally lacking in visceral momentum and dramatic edge.

Fast & Furious 6 landed the stop spot at the box office with $317 million. The Hangover Part III came in second place with an estimated $51,215,000 over the four-day weekend.
