16-year-old Kiera Wilmot was mixing together household chemicals in an 8 oz. water bottle while in Bartow High school and the chemicals caused a small explosion that popping the top from the bottle and producing a cloud of smoke. While no one was hurt during Wilmot’s accident, she was still whisked away in handcuffs by the cops and expelled from school! What’s most ridiculous about this is that she will be tried as an adult. Poor Kiera will have to earn her diploma via an expulsion program.

It’s being reported that Kiera was only attempting to conduct an experiment. The major problem with her experiment was that there were no science teachers around. According to reports, Kiera was taken into custody by a Polk County school resources officer and charged with charged with possession/discharge of a weapon on school grounds and discharging a destructive device.
I get it. We live in a time where terrorist attacks have become a household phrase and Kiera’s mistake is way too close to Boston’s infamous marathan bombing. Now it seems conversations need to be had with students performing any type of pranks or experiments without approval or teacher’s advising. Poor Kiera is being used as an example that you can’t be reckless in school.
Not everyone is against Kiera. Her principal has her back, “She told us everything and was very honest. She didn’t run or try to hide the truth. We had a long conversation with her. She is a good kid. She has never been in trouble before. Ever She made a bad choice. Honestly, I don’t think she meant to ever hurt anyone,” principal Ron Pritchard said. “She wanted to see what would happen [when the chemicals mixed] and was shocked by what it did.”
A statement has been released by the Polk County Schools:
“Anytime a student makes a bad choice it is disappointing to us. Unfortunately, the incident that occurred at Bartow High School yesterday was a serious breach of conduct. In order to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment, we simply must uphold our code of conduct rules. We urge our parents to join us in conveying the message that there are consequences to actions. We will not compromise the safety and security of our students and staff.”
