Michelle Obama recently stated in an interview with Burlington, Vt. CBS affiliate WCAX that she was a “busy single mother.” Yeah….I was confused too. This statement is coming hot off the heels of the FLOTUS telling her that her husband is indeed a sex symbol. Ok, so maybe it’s the FLOTUS’ adoration for Beyonce, causing her to use the phrase “single mothers?” All my “SINGLE LADIES…” No?
Michelle and Barack Obama have become more than a symbol of history-making; they have become the archetype of what Black love should be. Any time these two attractive human beings are at the same place at the same time and there’s a camera around, their affections are captured and widely shared around the internet, with folks claiming they want a love like that. So to hear FLOTUS refer to herself as a “single mother” is just…weird.

As soon as the untruth escaped her lips, she corrected it by saying, “You know, when you’ve got the husband who’s president, it can feel a little single, but he’s there.” Yes, her hubby is the “sexy” president, who is very busy, but that doesn’t make Michelle a single mother. I understand where she’s coming from. She’s the one picking up all the slack in the house, I’m sure. The president has many other things he worries over daily, but his family remains a priority. I wonder what this little slip of the tongue is about though?
Michelle continued, “And as a busy working mom, and before coming to the White House, I was in that position as well – working, driving kids to practice, not having enough time to shop or cook, not having the energy.” Ok, so that makes a bit more sense, but I still don’t know if I’m ready to let this flub go quite yet. I’m going to keep my eyes on this one.
