Chicago teen, Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed a week after she twirled her baton with the King College Prep marching band at President Obama’s second inauguration. Pendleton was taking shelter from the rain with her friends on the 4400 block of South Oakenwald when stray bullets claimed her life.
Hadiya is slowly becoming a national symbol for the growing gun violence in Chicago. It makes my heart bleed to know that she denounced gun violence in a 2008 PSA, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
Hadiya’s wake and funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greater Harvest Baptist Church, 5141 S. State Street.
