There’s a new bill (House Bill 206) in New Mexico that forces rape victims to carry their babies full term so that the child can serve as evidence. The craziest part of this bill is that it was introduced by a woman, New Mexico Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R)!

The bill details:

“Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime.”

If women in New Mexico seek an abortion after rape, they could be charged with a third degree felony and serve up to three years in prison. Brown claims that she wants to punish the person who commits incest or rape and then uses an abortion to destroy the evidence of the crime. This sounds like more of a punishment for the women who are raped. Talk about adding more insult to, well…insult.
