About a year ago, my friend/ former co-worker told me about this singer from Canada… Immediately intrigued, because he shares the same homeland as one of my favorite rappers Drake, I paid close attention to the details. He explained that The Weeknd is actually one person, and shares a similar style to Drizzy. Needless to say, I was sold. (Thanks Leighton!)
A few weeks later, The Weeknd dropped the song “In My Zone,” featuring none other than Aubrey Graham himself. Displaying a sexier side, Drake sealed the deal on my like for the upcoming artist. And together, they have been making music ever since.
The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, established his core audience with three mixtapes: “House Of Balloons,” “Thursday” and “Echos Of Silence.” It was only until recently, that the Ethiopian singer revealed himself to fans and started performing live. It didn’t take long for him to sell out venues and become the hottest underground artist since Frank Ocean.
Now, with a freshly acquired record deal and a strong backing, The Weeknd is set to release his debut album “The Trilogy,” which is a combination of all his mixtape music remixed and mastered.
