“Queen’s” work in music, film and television has earned her a Golden Globe Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Image Awards, a Grammy Award, six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. I’d say “accomplished” is an understatement.

Now she’s knocking down yet another goal–bringing a contemporary, sister-girl spin to a chick flick classic, “Steel Magnolias.” As the executive producer of the made-for-TV movie, Queen Latifah fills the cast with Black leading ladies Jill Scott, Phylicia Rashad and her daughter Condola Rashad, Adepero Oduyev and Alfre Woodard.

Latifah wanted a whole new generation to appreciate the classic Robert Harling story about six Louisiana women navigating their complex lives, while supporting one another in the sanctuary of a Black hair salon.

“I’m tuned up to make it very special in a Queen Latifah way. I’m just trying to embrace it and relate it my way,” Queen Latifah said of her role of “M’Lynn” in “Steel Magnolias.” We love it already!

Check out five reasons why we just love Queen Latifah!

1. She’s A Covergirl

Not only is Queen Latifah among a small number of Black women hand picked to be Covergirls, she also has her own line with Covergirl–The Queen Collection. Covergirl only chooses celebrated women that are just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. How could we not love a true beauty like Queen Latifah?

2. She’s Fa(t)shion Forward

Her Queen Collection on HSN is beyond amazing. Finding clothes that are trendy and comfortable is typically a challenge for larger women. Latifah has made it easier for women of a particular size to feel confident and beautiful in their clothes without looking like they’re swimming in a sea of fabric. We love her personal style and now other plus size women get to dress like the Queen!

3. She Denounced The “B” Word

“Who you calling a b****?!” Latifah exclaimed in her popular rap tune, “U.N.I.T.Y.” As a pioneer in hiphop game, Queen Latifah represents all that’s strong and beautiful about women in male dominated industry. What’s not to love about that?

4. She Produces Positivity

We love anyone who is able to pay it forward. Queen Latifah’s currently produces the hit TV series, “Single Ladies,” which in turn offers jobs to many cast and crew members. Although “Single Ladies” is no “Living Single,” (*sigh* we loved that show!), it still offers an interesting perception of successful and single women of color. Thanks Queen!

5. She Can Talk To Everyday People

Latifah already added talk show host to her resume back in 1999 when she hosted “The Queen Latifah Show,” and she’s bringing it back in 2013! “The Queen Latifah Show” is a new daytime talk show that will boast celebrity guests and touch on various hot topics in entertainment. We love that Latifah is able to use all of her incredible talents for this show to closely connect with fans.
