Drake’s obsession with the late Aaliyah is endearing, yet creepy. From his fanatic tattoos to the rumors of an Aaliyah posthumous album, Drake seems determined to resurrect Aaliyah or at least her career through his own whisper-soft vocal stylings.

But not so fast! Timbaland–the mega producer that was mostly responsible for Aaliyah’s sound (as well as Missy Elliott) says that Drake shouldn’t even be considering an Aaliyah album without using he or Missy. Fans weren’t having it either. They took to Twitter to curse Drake for his interest in putting out an Aaliyah album without Aaliyah’s closest friends in the music industry.

They aren’t the only ones! Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad took to Aaliyah’s Facebook page and said:

“there is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family.” -Rashad Haughton (regarding upcoming album release rumors)”

Aaliyah’s family has always mentioned after her death that there would be no posthumous albums, but Aaliyah’s uncle Barry Hankerson (who owns the label Aaliyah was on) is said to be the one responsible for releasing “Enough Said.” The song was labeled as Aaliyah featuring Drake and includes never-before-heard vocals from the late singer. According to MissInfo.tv., the artwork for the album features both the logo of Drake’s label, October’s Very Own, and Blackground Records, with whom Aaliyah was signed.

Miss Info also got an exclusive tip saying Timbaland IS involved:

But for all the fans who cant imagine a Aaliyah project without the input of Timbaland and Missy Elliott…great news! I’m hearing that Tim is getting involved. So far I’m hearing he’s producing 2 songs. Hopefully there will be more and Missy will be in there too! Timbaland recent told me that he and Missy are already done recording their joint album.

So good to hear! We’d love for Aaliyah’s family to endorse her album, but they’ve made their stance clear. No music or support from them, but with Tim involved, maybe that will change their tune. Fingers crossed!
