Soulful songstress Rebecca Ferguson may be a newcomer to this side of the pond, but the Liverpool native made her mark in the music industry long before we ever heard her hauntingly soulful vocals.

It was Rebecca’s appearance on the U.K.’s “X Factor” that introduced her to the world. As the 10th season’s runner up, she was constantly compared to vocalists like Aretha Franklin, Norah Jones and Sade–quite the soulful roster to be compared to. And she was compared to these voices because she shares their same soul-tugging abilities. With her debut album, Heaven available now, Ferguson’s been taking the airwaves by storm. Her lead single, “Nothing’s Real But Love,” she’s proving that she’s here to make timeless music that speaks to the hearts of many.

She’s certainly speaking to ours! We just had to grab Rebecca for a quick 10 minute interview where she shared with us 10 tidbits of information about her as a mom, singer and role model. Check out what Rebecca Ferguson had to say below:

As a mother of two, how do you handle the pressure of molding your children while working in an industry that takes so much of your time and energy?

I do find it difficult balancing being a working woman and a mother, but my children come first. They will always be my priority, that is part of being a mother.

Would you encourage your kids to get into showbiz?

No, I wouldn’t encourage it. It is a very tough business and I couldn’t watch them struggle the way I did.

What challenges did you face as a teenage mother?

I struggled with self identity. You’re still trying to discover who you are as a person. It was difficult, but I believe children are a blessing and I have been fortunate enough to blessed with two.

Your image is squeaky clean, however, young American artists (like Rihanna) oversaturate the media with their crazy antics. Do you think it’s necessary to put yourself out there in a negative light to gain the attention of fans?

It is not my place as an imperfect human to judge anyone else. All I can say is that as a mother it is my responsibility to be a good role model.

Do you feel your music reflects who you are as an artist?

Yes, it is completely me. Every song reflects a situation that I have personally been through. It is very honest.

Who do you respect in the industry?

Lady Gaga–I respect her artistry, individuality and that since she has came in to the musical world, so many have followed.

Who is your style icon?

Audrey Hepburn. I would refer to my style as classic.

What are some songs you can’t stop singing?

Katy Perry – “Wide Awake” and  Mary J Blige – “Just Fine”

What’s next?

God willing, a successful worldwide album!

Anything you want your fans to know about you or anything you’d like to add?

I would just like thank my ‘Lil Angels’ for their support, love and continued belief in me.
