A stunningly slim Chaka Khan took center stage in Harlem’s Apollo Theater Monday night to pay tribute to Lionel Richie, the recipient of this year’s Apollo Theater Hall Of Fame Award.  Richie joyously accepted his award noting that “before Lionel Richie, there was the greatest band in the world called The Commodores, and the Apollo Theater gave us our first stamp of approval.”

Richie’s induction in to the Hall Of Fame places him amongst fellow greats like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Michael Jackson.  The late Etta James was also inducted this year. Gladys Knight celebrated her singing “At Last” for the packed house of patrons and supporters.

The celebration for Richie was held at the Apollo’s Annual Spring Gala where Mary Mary performed Richie’s hit song “All Night Long”,  and Chaka Khan performed “Hello”.  Donnie McClurkin and the Tuskegee University Gospel Choir brought the house down with their rendition of “Jesus Is Love” before Richie took to the stage himself singing “Easy” and “Three Times A Lady.”
