Candidates Hillary Clinton And Donald Trump Hold Second Presidential Debate At Washington University

The second presidential debate was perhaps the one of the most bizarre and confusing of its kind. Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton both addressed some of the stains on their past, including the recently leaked video of Trump discussing his beliefs regarding sexual assault against women while wearing a hot mic.

But as pundits debate whether Trump performed better in the second debate than the first, his answer to a Black voter’s question regarding how he would benefit minority lives in American has many with their jaws on the floor.

Trump said, “I’m going to help the African Americans. I’m going to help the Latinos, Hispanics. I am going to help the inner cities.”

Aside from how problematic it is to refer to groups of people as “the,” Trump tossed around lies he pretended were facts as reason why Black people should vote for him. He went on to say that Black people have “nothing to lose” and threw around false statistics about poverty in the Black community (he says 45%, while the actual number is less than 25%).

Twitter is furious over Trump’s racist generalizations and rhetoric:

By the way, the question had nothing to do with economics or social policy. The voter simply asked if Trump could be “devoted” to all his constituents after running such a divisive campaign.

The GOP nominee can’t seem to separate Black people and the “inner city.” While many of us do indeed live in urban areas, it is hardly the only reality.

Clearly Trump missed the memo that Black people live in all neighborhoods around the country, including millions in his beloved Manhattan, millions more in suburbs and rural areas. And let’s not even talk about how “inner cities” across America are some of the wealthiest areas in the country.

Moreover, Trump’s rhetoric about crime draws a clear line to the inaccurate statistics often thrown around about “Black on Black” crime, when it has long been established that all crime is intraracial.

It’s also worth noting that Hillary Clinton completely missed an opportunity to correct him, which also says something about the Democratic nominee.

What did you think of the debate? What moment made you cringe most?
