It’s about time! Writer and actress Issa Rae’s cable television debut will happen this fall, HBO recently tweeted.

Known for her popular web series The Mis-Adventures Of Awkward Black Girl, Rae’s new show Insecure is loosely based off her own life and focuses on the “friendship of two modern-day Black women and all of their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations,” Clutch writes. The half-hour comedy is created and executive produced by Rae with comedian Larry Wilmore serving as a consultant.

This has been a long time coming. Back in 2013, HBO announced that Rae and Wilmore were teaming up for this show. While we’re unsure why took this long for this show to see the light of day, we are confident that this will be an instant hit.

Congrats, Issa! You truly deserve it.

RIP: Former Deputy White House Counsel Cassandra Butts Dies at 50

Sadly, it’s been reported that Cassandra Quin Butts, the former Deputy White House Counsel, died on Thursday. She was only 50-years-old.

According to The Root, Butts’ family said that Butts suffered from a “brief illness” and died suddenly this week. Her sister found Butts’ body in her Washington, D.C. home.

Butts had an impressive resume: She attended Harvard with President Obama, served as his deputy counsel during his first year in office and in 2014, POTUS named her to be the U.S. Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

In a recent White House statement, the First Family said that Butts was a long-time friend “who made you want to be better.”

“Cassandra and I met as law students, and we quickly discovered a shared passion for jazz— and for public service,” said President Obama. “It was a passion she’d chase for the rest of her life—on Capitol Hill, at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and as an advisor of mine—but above all, as a citizen, always pushing, always doing her part to advance the causes of opportunity, civil rights, development, and democracy. Cassandra was someone who put her hands squarely on that arc of the moral universe, and never stopped doing whatever she could to bend it towards justice.”

He added: “She made America better. She made so many lives better, including ours. We admired her so much. And we will miss her deeply.”

We send our condolences to the Butts family.

Racist Chinese Laundry Detergent Commercial Is Way Out Of Order, Twitter Reacts

The Internet was in an uproar over a recent racially offensive commercial from China.

According to Fusion, the ad for Qiaobi detergent features an interracial couple with an Asian woman and a Black man, who is seemingly speckled in paint. The woman feeds the man a detergent pod and places him in the washing machine. When he emerges “nice and clean” his Blackness is completely gone and he is now an Asian man.

Sigh.

Clearly, folks were not happy with this ad’s racial implications or the Black actor who allowed himself to be depicted in this way.

What do you think about the ad?
