Over 15K Raised To Help Blind 12-Year-Old Receive Special Glasses

Christopher Ward Jr. was born with an undeveloped optic nerve and for the past 12 years, he’s only ever been able to see shapes and colors. Ward has never even seen his mother, Marquita Hackley. While watching TV, Hackley learned about the latest development in technology, eSight which: which uses a high-speed camera to record video live and then display it on LED screens located right in front of the wearer’s eyes. With the help of ABC, Hackley and Ward were to travel from VA to DC for the preteen to try a pair of the glasses which immediately helped him to see. The only issue was the fact that the customized lens were $15K. Following ABC airing the segment about Ward, the $15K was received within minutes.The subsequent money will be put into a trust for Ward’s future endeavors. ABC News

Man Reportedly Watches TV & Drinks Beer As Infant Dies In Hot Car

Daiquan Fields would usually drop his girlfriend’s 10-year-old and 15-year-old kids at school and her 2-year-old daughter at the babysitter. On Wednesday, April 27th, Fields was running late in dropping off the eldest children. He returned home, drank beer and watch tv for the next seven hours until it was time to pick up the kids from school. He then realized that he had forgotten the toddler in the backseat. Fields called 911 but it was already too late. Even though the outside temperature in Virginia was 70 degrees, the baby’s body temperature was 107 degrees. She also had second degree burns on her body from where the seatbelt made contact with her skin. Fields, who’s reportedly a six-time felon, had been most recently caught driving on a suspended license. He’s facing felony child neglect and involuntary manslaughter charges. Fields is currently out on $50,000 bond. NY Daily News

Man Arrested For Secretly Recording His Neighbors In Their Bathroom

Samuel Gadamanla had been given a spare key to his co-workers home who also happened to be her neighbor. The 52-year-old abused this privilege by hiding a camera in the vent of their bathroom where he recorded photos and video of the woman and her husband. The camera was eventually discovered and with the help of police, they set up a sting was set up to catch Gadamanla entering the home to put new batteries in the camera. The Arlington Heights man has since been charged with residential burglary and unlawful video recording. He’s currently being held on $175,000 bond. Chicago Tribune

New Program Designed To Give Former Felons A Second Chance

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Housing and Urban Development have invested $2 million in providing resources for former felons that need jobs.  “All of us make mistakes,” says DOJ Director of Access to Justice Lisa Foster. “What we know about young people is that they make lots of mistakes.” As part of National Re-entry Week, the DOJ will be focusing on helping men in 18 cities that are under 25 secure housing apply for a driver’s license, jobs and more.
