Democratic Presidential Primary Debate

After some private and public fighting about whether or not they would meet in New York before the April 19 Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have finally set a date. The two will square off on primetime on April 14 for a debate that will air on both CNN and New York 1, CNN reported.

The debate will take place in Sander’s home borough of Brooklyn and will be moderated by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer along with CNN chief political correspondent Dana Bash and NY1 political anchor Errol Louis asking questions as well.

According to CNN, Sanders’ camp called for a debate in the Big Apple months ago, meanwhile Clinton said she would meet with her opponent only if he could “tone” down his demeanor. However, Clinton recently gave Sanders dates to meet, which he said narrowing down times that worked were “difficult” given some of his prior engagements. Clearly that has all been resolved.

This NY debate comes at a critical time for both Clinton and Sanders. Last week, Sanders had a crowd of more than 15,000 supporters congregate at a rally in the South Bronx and a roundtable in Harlem hosted by Rosario Dawson, Spike Lee, Tessa Thompson and many others. At the same time, Clinton was campaigning as well, hosting an event at the Apollo Theater and making a surprise stop at BET’s Black Girls Rock awards ceremony.

Currently, polls show Clinton with a double-digit lead over Sanders in NY where there are a whopping 247 delegates up for grabs. However, polls also show that Sanders is slightly ahead in Wisconsin, whose primary is on Tuesday.

Catch the NY debate on Thursday, April 14 at 9pm Eastern time.
