Actress Tia Mowry stopped by Kocktails With Khloe to talk about interracial relationships and some of her earliest encounters with racism. Referencing her twin sister Tamera Mowry‘s marriage to Adam Housley, as well as that of her parents and even her own, Tia recalls the time her mother attempted to purchase the house she currently lives in.
The famed sister told Khloe Kardashian that when her mom walked in and asked for an application, she was told that the house was sold. But when her White dad asked, the realtor’s story changed.
Khloe also talked about her own experiences with racism, revealing that when she was a kid, her family would get kicked out of restaurants because her dad was defending O.J. Simpson in his ’94-’95 murder trial. She also briefly discussed her own interracial marriage to Lamar Odom.

“We would get kicked out of restaurants because my dad was defending O.J. – just really crazy things. Yea, it was really intense and as kids you don’t understand. In my household, I was never allowed to describe a person for weight or color – always just like, ‘Oh the girl…’ I would have to give a personal characteristic. I was never allowed to say, ‘Oh the chubby girl.’ I could never say that. My dad was super strict about that. Racism is real.”
Ironically enough, O.J. Simpson was accused (and acquitted) of murdering ex-wife Nicole Simpson, and many argue that it wouldn’t have been as newsworthy had the crime entailed Black-on-Black violence. We’re also watching the budding interracial romance of Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden – lead prosecutors in the O.J. case – unfold on the FX series The People v. O.J. Simpson.
