When the University of Missouri football team boycotted playing until their school’s president resigned for turning a blind eye on the racism happening on its campus. These athletes were no longer going to “shut and play.”

Academy Award winner Spike Lee also took notice and documented this bravery and campus activism in his new short film, “2 Fists Up,” which is slated to debut at Robert DeNiro’s prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in April.

Part of the EPSN sports films program, “2 Fists Up,” is a documentary that is also part of his Spike Lee’s Lil’ Joints series, which features sports stories that center on African Americans, the Huffington Post noted. It will be available on the cable sports channel on May 31.

Student activist Kendrick Washington told The Maneater how grateful he is for Lee’s dedication and approach to the issue of campus activism and racism.

“I think I can speak on the behalf of Concerned Student, but we are extremely appreciative of Spike’s presence — him wanting to hear our narrative is a great feeling and it’s an accomplishment,” Washington said.

He added, “We know people care about our movement on a national level and our dedication inspired him to come to know more about us.”

While we have yet to see a trailer, here is some footage of “Concerned Student 1950,” a Mizzou student-made documentary about activism on campus. Lee was present for some its filming.
