Don’t you love when your favorite athletes show off their family? Before Riley Curry stole our hearts, it was all about Wanda Pratt.

In 2014, NBA star Kevin Durant was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. During his emotional speech he said his mother Wanda was “the real MVP”. While the internet has gone on to make a meme out of that particular line, Kevin and Wanda are laughing all the way to the bank!

Lifetime and Queen Latifah‘s Flavor Unit Productions are currently in Vancouver, Canada filming a biopic based on Kevin’s upbringing. “The Real MVP: The Wanda Pratt Story” will show audiences how Wanda struggled to raised Kevin and his brother Tony as a 21-year-old single mother.

Here are the additional details of the plot via Shadow & Act:

“Wanda tirelessly worked to make ends meet and put a roof over the heads of her young sons. With the support of her mother Barbara and of her best friend, Wanda focused all her energy on keeping her boys out of trouble and on the basketball court, selflessly putting aside her own dreams and desires to make sure their goals could be achieved.

Her hard work paid off as Tony earned basketball scholarships while Kevin headed to the NBA.”

Cassandra Freeman stars as Wanda Pratt; Tracie Thoms plays her best friend and confidante; and Pauletta Washington will portray her mother Barbara. The adult Kevin and Tony Durant will be played by newcomers Daniel Bellomy and Nic Few.

The film is directed by Nelson George who most recently directed and produced Misty Copeland‘s documentary, “A Ballerina’s Tale”

Beauties, can you relate to Wanda’s story? Will you tune in when the film airs this Mother’s Day?
