The more Lifetime movies come out about early 90’s R&B artists, the more Perri “Pebbles” Reid looks crazy. But according to ex-husband and music industry giant, L.A. Reid, all the backlash she gets is unwarranted.

In a recent sit down with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, Reid talked about the role Pebbles played in TLC’s financial troubles. Reid said in regards to the TLC biopic, “I didn’t watch it.” Adding,”You want to know why I didn’t watch it, right? Because I have children and my ex-wife was portrayed in the movie. I knew that my children were not happy about it so, if I got to make a choice, I’m going to side with my family.”

Adding, “In fairness to her [Pebbles] she doesn’t collect the money from record sales. Record companies do that. And at that point we were in a joint venture with Arista [Records] and BMG [Rights Management]. So if Pebbles is accused of not paying TLC, then that means that I didn’t pay her, which means that they didn’t pay me. So if we’re smarter about it, we’re going to look to the source and say, ‘Wait a minute. So if there was a shorting going on, where would that have taken place?’ I can tell you on the record that Pebbles never robbed anybody or ripped anybody off.”

But when asked if Arista was the one to blame, he shy’d away from a direct comment saying, “Listen, y’all smart people. Y’all smart people, right? You’re smart. Imma leave it at that.”

While Pebbles may not have been to blame for TLC’s financial troubles, the drama surrounding it did ultimately affect his marriage to the singer turned manager. A fact he does directly acknowledge.

Either way, Reid –who is currently the chairman and CEO of Epic Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment– is clearly not trying to upset the monolithic music gods.

Or in the immortal words of Q-Tip: “Industry rule number four thousand and eighty, record company people are shady.”
