Loretta Lynch Announces U.S. Investigation Into Chicago Police Department

Kia Absalom, 21, stepdaughter of U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch recently spent several hours in a Brooklyn police station for an unusual reason.

She ordered a car from the popular ride sharing app, Uber. When she arrived at her destination, the driver Hassan Almaweri expected to be paid.

Typically, an Uber user will add their credit or debit card accounts to the app and funds will automatically be deducted after the ride. Kia, however, ordered an “UberT” where similar to a traditional taxi, customers can pay with cash or card, but not through the app.

The young woman and the driver got into an argument over the method of payment and Hassan drove her to the police station.

She did not have any cash on hand and was detained for nearly two hours until her boyfriend could arrive and pay the $20 fare.

Absalom was not finger printed or booked and according to CBS, police say her “arrest number was voided” once the driver received his money.

The office of the Attorney General, Absalom as well as Uber’s San Francisco headquarters declined to comment.
