The Supreme Court is currently deliberating over a unique affirmative action case. In 2008 Abigail Fisher was denied admissions into the University of Texas at Austin due to her mediocre grades. However, Fisher strongly believed UT’s “holistic” program, which accounts for the applicant’s race, affected the admissions decision. Fisher decided to sue the University and her case made it all the way to the Supreme Court.

During oral arguments on the subject of affirmative action, Chief Justice Antonin Scalia said that Black students should attend “less-advanced,” “slower-tracked schools…where they do not feel that they’re being pushed ahead in classes that are too fast for them.”

African American students and alumni of the University of Texas were rightfully offended by Scalia’s comments and have since created the most perfect response: #StayMadAbby. The social media hashtag is full of Black excellence! It’s even carried over to other institutions where Black collegiates are reiterating that their brilliance transcends race. Check out some of our favorite tweets below!
