This season of “Empire” finds Cookie in more sophisticated, high fashion looks. Think less animal print and more couture. But the Lyon family matriarch hasn’t loss her affinity for over-the-top statement pieces as we saw in last night’s episode, “Fires of Heaven.” She graces our TV screen in one of the boldest looks we’ve seen on her yet: a gold metal corset from The Blonds’ Spring 2015 collection.

The episode’s writer Attica Locke said on Twitter, “that outfit is actually all metal. [Taraji P. Henson] was a trooper wearing that heavy thing all night.” Her heavy gold top resembled armor, perfect for the battle she was waging against Lucious and Empire Records by taking over their “Welcome Home” party.

The first lady of “Empire” went softer but still kept her edge at a dinner Lucious threw for the family. She dragged his dinner onto the floor, literally, wearing a feminine sheer polka dot blouse by Dolce & Gabbana. We see a little bit of her bite in the pop of red lipstick she wears to compliment the shirt’s black and white color. Get Cookie’s look on a budget here.

We often see Cookie in bold and fiery colors, and nothing’s more eye-catching than red. She’s in full boss mode running her new record label, Lyon Dynasty, in a Gucci red lace-up dress and Fendi faux fur coat (not pictured). It’s her favorite silhouette (bodycon) but instead of her usual prints, she’s keeping it simple and streamlined in a fitted red dress. But unless you think she’s lost any of her signature sass, her lace-up neckline gives the look a much needed dose of edge. Get her look for less here.

Cookie isn’t ready to walk away from animal print entirely. She has a tense meeting with “Boo Boo Kitty” in her office, which leads to Anika’s epic line “You are badder than all the animals whose prints populate your wardrobe.” Indeed. In this scene, she wears a zebra print blazer by Emanuel Ungaro with a yellow Marni fringe clutch. Here, we see her embracing a classic look (what’s more appropriate for work than a blazer and pants?) but still letting her personality shine with the zebra print and yellow fringe bag. Get the blazer for less here and a similar fringe bag here.

Anika Calhoun is more vulnerable than ever this season. She’s made enemies out of Cookie and Lucious, and lost major credibility in Episode 1 when, as Cookie snapped, “she couldn’t even dyke right.” She’s still feeling a bit powerless, and her wardrobe of muted colors reflects that. We see in her in a navy dress, going to meet with her nemesis, Luscious, who is fresh out of jail. But don’t count her out just yet: she seemingly agrees to betray Cookie & Co. and help Luscious in exchange for a “reward”…or maybe she’s pretending to be Luscious’ ally and tricking him in the process. We’re not exactly sure yet. Either way, her sexy bodycon dress feels a bit dangerous, like she’s got something tricky up her sleeve. Grab a similar dress here.
