Serena Williams was defeated by unseeded opponent Roberta Vinci (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) in the U.S. Open semifinals today, taking her out of the running for the Grand Slam title. The stunning upset comes after Serena defeated her sister Venus in the quarterfinals earlier this week. Had she won, she would have been the first woman to win all four majors since Steffi Graf in 1988.

Serena is a stellar athlete and we’re sure this loss won’t stop her from striving for a Grand Slam next year.
