Moses Wilson, 67, the only Black man on a jury that deadlocked on a verdict in the Randall Kerrick trial, said that Jonathan Ferrell did not deserve to die. He was one of four jurors who voted to convict the police officer who shot him 10 times that fatal night in September 2013.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Wilson wrote one question on the dry-erase board in the deliberation room:
“What did Jonathan Ferrell DO to warrant death? 10 shots.”
Wilson, a Vietnam veteran, never got a satisfactory answer, so he found Kerrick guilty of voluntary manslaughter.
The Observer reports:
Wilson, 67, the only African-American male on the jury, moved to Charlotte in 2008 after retiring from a career as a court constable in Boston.
Wilson said he didn’t care for a defense strategy that seemed to make Ferrell into a villain in the fatal encounter two years ago.
“Randall Kerrick wasn’t on trial,” said Wilson. “You know who was on trial? Jonathan Ferrell.”
But Wilson said that Ferrell held down a job and was invited to join his friends, showing he was a sociable man.
Wilson said he would not speak for other jurors or reveal the dynamics of the deliberations, but would share his personal experience.
Wilson contends that Kerrick isn’t racist, but that he just “lost it.” He also said that a night of mistake after mistake led to Ferrell’s death. Still, he said that the responsibility of that death lies squarely on Kerrick’s shoulders.
