Fashion and beauty is more political than ever this week as the news topics sweeping our nation spill over into the style realm. As the country reacts to uprisings in Baltimore in response to the brutal killing of another Black man at the hands of the police, a group of activists decided to shed light on the #BlackLivesMatter movement in an unforgettable way.

Never 21, a collective formed to honor underage victims of police killings, dressed up as Forever 21 employees and covered mannequins in the store windows with “Black Lives Matter” t-shirts. They placed their tees on racks and hung a banner inside the store where it remained for 20 minutes before employees noticed and removed it. Never 21 representatives maintain that their demonstration was not directed toward Forever 21; it was simply a way to spread awareness.

“This was not an attack on Forever 21,” they said. “In actuality, it is an opportunity for the popular retail conglomerate to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Whether they choose to support our message or be against it, this will not stop us from making sure that these voices continue to be heard.” Mission accomplished.
