Name: Tish

Age: 31. I’m grown as hell! HAHA!

Hometown: Bronx, New York

Musical Inspiration: Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Biggie, Lauryn Hill, Missy, Big Pun, Jay Z, Kanye, Queen, Rick James, Annie Lennox, Alicia Keys, The Lox, Diddy–I had tons, even going back to the whole Motown era, Nirvana.

What is your sound? My sound on this album is 90’s Hip-Hop with a lot of influences from reggae and jazz. But as an artist my sound is real. However I feel is how I sound. My sound will change and evolve but real is my sound. Real stories, real emotions…just real.

Your “momma I made it” moment? There have been many amazing experiences from working and building a friendship with Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys to sitting with Kanye and playing him my music and him playing it for Diddy, prompting Diddy to call me in to a session. Being on Fabolous’ new album, so many amazing things. I’m hoping this is the tip of the iceberg and my big break is yet to come.

If you were the lovechild of two musicians, dead or alive, who would they be? I’d be Rick James and Tina Turner’s lovechild. They would never marry, so I’d have two sets of parents. Rick would marry Janis Joplin and they would give birth to Kurt Cobain. Tina would marry Mick Jagger and they would give birth to Amy Winehouse. Amy and Curt would be my f*cking siblings…now that would be awesome! HAHA!

Dream Collaboration? Tish with Annie Lennox and Jay Z. I wouldn’t use the word featuring.

Best advice you’ve ever been given? Alicia Keys told me she liked that I say exactly what is on my mind with no filter or fear. She told me that was her favorite quality about me and to never lose it.

Your latest single? My latest single “Subway Art” It’s about how I felt riding the trains in NYC. I always got emotional listening to the stories of people passing through the cars. It affected me growing up so naturally, I wrote about it.
