The reviews are in, and it looks like Whitney Houston‘s biopic was a hit with Black Twitter!

Not gonna lie, we were all a bit concerned about how Whitney would turn out after we saw Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic (the producers got it sooo wrong for that one!). The casting was good and Angela Bassett had signed on to direct, and that still wasn’t enough to calm fan fears of a train wreck. Despite all of the vetted talent attached to the film, there was still a tinge of concern–even after the network rolled out some better-than-decent teasers and trails for Whitney!

Viewers were cautious about tuning in, but whatever optimism they may have had about Whitney was greatly rewarded! The biopic was way better than most fans had been expecting, and they were pretty generous with the compliments online. Scroll down for the best response from Black Twitter!

Whitney got the stamp of approval from a number of actors that encouraged viewers that enjoyed the film to speak up.

In the court of public opinion, not everyone loved Whitney.

I’m trying really hard to enjoy this #WhitneyMovie but I can’t.. This movie doesn’t celebrate a legend.. It’s actually pretty disrespectful.

Some even believed the film was more focused on making Bobby Brown look good. He did come off particularly innocent and love-struck throughout the first part of the movie.

Others were incredibly impressed by the high-level hair game on “Whitney” as YaYa DaCosta donned about 20 different looks during the film–four in the first 15 minutes alone!

Of course, most people really seemed to like this peek into the diva’s life, and they had high praise for Angela’s directing job. Not a body to begrudge talent, many on Black Twitter had to give it up for “Whitney”!

This has actually been a great movie !! #WhitneyMovie

And since Black Twitter will never miss an opportunity to crack a joke, users had tons of memes and comments ready to go for the Whitney premiere! We noticed that lots of the shade was aimed at Wendy Williams, who served as a producer for last year’s disastrous Aaliyah biopic.
