Steve Harvey was in for a huge treat during his 58th birthday celebration. On Friday, Harvey’s self-titled talk show prepared big surprises to mark the occasion which actually is on Jan. 17, by informing the multi-hyphenated star his hometown of Cleveland declared his birthday Steve Harvey Day! Harvey also learned the city named a portion of the street he grew up on as “Steve Harvey Way.” As the cameras rolled, Harvey was overcome with tears by the gestures presented to him and also discussing his family, life and how he became the man that is today, while his family and friends stood in front of his childhood home.
Later on in the show, Harvey was joined by his wife Marjorie and their children who brought on kids from his mentoring program to discuss how it changed their lives. Harvey was then surprised by philanthropist and author Alan Fox, who is also committed to children’s education, donate $200,000 to the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation.
Afterwards, Harvey was brought to more tears when all seven of his children recalled some of their favorite moments with their father. An emotional Harvey remarked about the special day:
This is my best TV moment. I’m not the person I used to be. It’s not about me anymore…I ain’t working for me. I’m working for them. I’ve got four full-time jobs for them. It’s so that when…when I’m done, I want you all to just have remembered that somebody cared more about you than himself. I want you to care more about someone else than yourself. I will defend your honor until I die. I love all of you. This is what it is for me. This is the greatest moment I’ve ever had. I’m very proud to be your father.
