A very tragic car accident claimed the lives of the driver, pregnant 30-year-old Zarissa Ayres, her 24-year-old sister Regina Ayres, Regina’s boyfriend 25-year-old Travis Stratton, Regina’s 7-year-old daughter Jordan Ayres and Regina’s 2-month-old son Jonathan Ayres. The family was driving from Virginia to Baltimore on their way to Zarissa’s baby shower for her unborn child, Zoe when the Ayres’ car hit a tractor-trailer early Saturday morning on Route 50 in Wye Mills. The car was “crushed beyond recognition.”
The driver of the tractor trailer was identified as Yvenet Mayette, 28, of Delaware. He was hospitalized with serious injuries. His tractor-trailer, which was loaded with 44,000 pounds of polyfiberT-boned Ayres’ car, rolling over the top of it, before pushing the car into west and eastbound lanes and then rolling over top of the car again. According to ABC, someone ran a red light in this crash, but it’s not confirmed who. “This is why we call them traffic crashes and not traffic accidents because something causes that collision to occur and that’s the focus on the investigation right now. What caused this?” Maryland State Police asked.
No one has been charged in the crash. Police say investigators expect to speak to the truck driver this week. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police. What a tragedy. So many lives, and new lives. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Ayres and Stratton families.
