The media may insist on showing us images of robbery and destruction all over Ferguson, but another side of the divided city was exposed when many protesters opted to protect stores from looters.

We are aware of this altruism thanks to the epic power of social media. Vine clips show protestors urging their community to gather peacefully, and Twitpics are displaying men bravely standing in front of beauty and malt shops, simply expressing “no” to faux protestors who would rather cause damage than effect change. Why aren’t our local news stations not showing us this as well? They shouldn’t neglect or minimally mention the peaceful defiances all over the streets of America.

This is such uplifting news to hear after the Ferguson protests were splayed across the media worldwide as violent. Too often the Black community is counter-attacked with accusations of Black-on-Black crime as the ultimate reason behind the premature passing of someone like Michael Brown, which we all know isn’t true.

Here’s to seeing more stories like these coming out of Ferguson, which complies to the wishes of Brown’s parents in memory of their son.
