This week, we spoke with Christine Sanchez and Duron Harmon about finding love unexpectedly and getting the proposal she was waiting for!

HER STORY

Duron and I went to rival high schools. He played football; I was a cheerleader (how cliché, I know). I was getting ready to graduate in the spring of 2008 and he had one more year. A mutual friend of ours, also his cousin, mentioned me to him, and I’m not sure how he was even brought up to begin with, but all I know is that I had a message from him on MySpace not too long after.

My first impression was that he was a sweet, reserved, respectful guy. He was a gentleman from the very beginning. We started from the beginning as friends with no intention of taking it any further than just prom dates, because after all, I was leaving for college that fall.

It was different from the very start and I think that’s what really attracted me to him. For our first date, I picked him up in my mom’s car after school, we had to scramble for change in the car because neither of us had money besides my single dollar bill and I really wanted him to try an ice cream cone from Chic-Fil-A. After that, we went to the movies, which we got into for free because I worked there. Aside from that day, dating consisted of what every other teenager was doing – the movies, beach, going to Applebee’s, and going to the major dances together. We were always together! Six years later, he is still the first person I want to talk to in the morning and the last person I speak to before I go to sleep.

HIS STORY

It all started one day when a good friend of mine told me that his girlfriend at the time, had a single friend at that I might be interested in getting to know her. So I remember that next week we played our rival high school in basketball and that was the first time I laid eyes on the most beautiful woman in the world. She was a cheerleader and while the junior varsity game was going on I kept catching myself staring at her. Although I was very fond of Christine, I was too shy to go say anything after the game.

Then a couple of weeks later I guess word got around to Christine that I was interested in her and wanted to get to know her, so my cousin told me that she said stop being scared and talk to her. So at the time MySpace was big, so I found her on there and sent her a message and eventually after a while I got her number. We texted from time to time and eventually we were able to meet up and go to the movies, which ended up being our spot because she worked there and we got in for free lol. We went and saw the movie “the ruins” which was not too good too me but being around her is what made everything worth it and from that time I knew I wanted to be with her.
