Work-life balance has become one of the most important issues surrounding employee satisfaction. With advances in technology, many employers and employees are recognizing the need to physically be in an office has diminished. In addition, technology has also allowed companies and their employees to work more efficiently and effectively than they have been able to in years. With these advancements and employee desires to spend more time with family, or for other personal matters, why have so little companies worldwide incorporated a four-day work week?

MUST READ: Top 8 Reasons Working From Home Is More Beneficial

Despite its failure to fully take flight, the benefits of a smaller work week are as present as ever and we couldn’t be happier. We’re totally telling our boss about this one. Here are the top five reasons a shorter work week may benefit all:

1. More work-life balance.

Most employees want more time for personal interests and family. Working five days a week, along with the time it takes to commute leave most people spending more time at work with their fellow colleagues than they do with loved ones and/or at home. A balance between work and personal interests will in turn provide more happiness and satisfaction for employees.

2. Reduction in carbon footprint.

Having to commute daily to the workplace unfortunately contributes to the damage on the environment. By reducing the amount of commuting, we can offer additional benefits to our surroundings and also conserve natural resources.

3. More productive employees.

Having to complete all tasks, assignments and projects within a smaller frame of time causes employees to focus more on getting things done in a more efficient manner. Employees may be less prone to calling in sick or taking personal days if they are not required to come to work as many days out of the week.

4. More money saved.

Fewer days at work allows parents of small children to save on days required for child care. Additionally it will cut down on the amount of money allocated towards commuting to and from work.

5. Happier employees.

Let’s face it; work can and has caused unnecessary stress to us at some point in time. By giving employees more time away from the job, employets may reduce stress level and improve overall physical and emotional health.

Will you try and convince your boss to give you a shorter work week? We should work together in making this a thing!
