Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have given the fight against Ebola a huge boost by doling out money to several organizations.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced Wednesday that it will donate a total of $50 million to help prevent the spread of Ebola beyond West Africa, Reuters reports. Without getting a specific breakdown of the funds, the organization revealed in a statement some money would be going to United Nations agencies and other international groups to help them buy supplies and bolster emergency response resources in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria, Liberia and Senegal.

Outside of helping to reinforce the quarantine, Bill and Melinda are also aiding Ebola research by donating money to partners to help them develop drugs and vaccines for the virus a little more quickly.

“We are working urgently with our partners to identify the most effective ways to help them save lives now and stop transmission of this deadly disease,” foundation CEO Sue Desmond-Hellman said in a statement.

The money couldn’t be coming at a better time since the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 4,300 people have been infected with Ebola, and nearly 2,300 have died since the outbreak began back in March.

You might not be able to break off as much as Bill and Melinda to help fight Ebola, but everyone can do a little something. For example, you could make a small donation to UNICEF to support efforts in the affected companies.

Failing that, you can throw your support behind Africare, which was founded by Black people. The organization operates in 17 different African countries, providing medical supplies and working with health advisors.
