Allow me to introduce you to the North River Lobster Company, a floating lobster shack on the Hudson River in New York City. The seasonal menus feature fresh Maine lobsters and staple “Lobster Shack” items including lobster rolls, lobster cobb salad and shrimp po boys! Yum! When I went to check out this place, I had my mind set on a delicious lobster roll, but could hardly keep myself from ordering the lobster. So I decided to just try the lobster and the lobster cobb. These were two of the best choices I made that day.

The salad was full and succulent and honestly, it could be used as a meal. I’ve never eaten an entire lobster before. I’ve only ever had a lobster tail, with the tail itself cracked open with the meat sitting on top of it, ready to eat. So this was an experience! Luckily, North River Lobster Company’s site shows you exactly how to eat a lobster. Once I figured it out and cracked that sucker open, I was pleased with the succulent meat the lobster offered. Like–melt in your mouth amazing!

There’s also a raw bar, signature cocktails served in mason jars, pitchers of homemade sangria and buckets of premiums beers that pair perfectly with anything on the menu. This place has a laid back, casual atmosphere and even more casual ordering, as they don’t offer reservations. All you have to do is come in, pick from a wide variety of seafood staples–lobster, a lobster roll, lobster cobb salad and more–order with the bartender, grab a seat and allow New York become New England.

There’s something so romantic, fun and freeing about cruising while you eat. Yes, North River Lobster Company is a restaurant on a boat, so you’ll get lunch/dinner and a show–the stunning view of the Hudson River. Recently launching in May 2014, North River Lobster Company is New York City’s first and only floating lobster shack. Docked at Pier 81 at 41st Street in Manhattan, the interiors have been designed to resemble a New England lobster shack. The ship is decked out in rustic fishing décor with classic charm. There’s communal seating on the two indoor decks which offer an engaging space for group outings, post-work cocktails and friendly conversations. The open-air top deck offers private tables with access to the full North River Lobster Company menu, as well as a walk-up bar featuring signature cocktails, all amidst breathtaking New York City skyline views. How could this not be your next date night spot or at least where you have your next meal?
