It was a star-studded evening at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills where celebs, press and industry elite gathered at the prestigious hotel for a night honoring the men and women behind the hits at the 27th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards. Jermaine Dupri was presented the “Founder’s Award” for his legendary contributions to music, Ne-Yo was awarded the “Golden Note Award” for his countless amount of hits and producer Mike WiLL took home the “Songwriter Of The Year” award for totally taking over the game, one beat and pen at a time.

I had the esteemed pleasure of working the red carpet and attending the show, where Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Shad Moss (formerly Bow Wow) and Mario paid homage to the honorees with performances.

I spoke to Ne-Yo on the red carpet and he had this to say his favorite JD production, “Jermaine has been around for a while and been doing quality music for a long time. All the Kriss Kross stuff, all the stuff from the Brat…there’s some Aaliyah stuff is in there. I don’t know if I can pick just one.”

And if you thought he couldn’t get anymore humble, he said this about being honored in the same night as JD, “I don’t feel worthy. He’s been around for a long time putting it down, quality for a long time. I got work to do before I am worthy of this award.”

Peep a clip of J Hud’s performance:

A battle between DJ Nabs and DJ SNS kicked off the final presentation of the night–the “Founder’s Award.” Of course Shad Moss took to the stage to represent for the ATL and show his respect to his mentor JD. Usher wowed the audience (and almost made me drop my camera as I rushed to the stage) with a surprise performance of his JD-produced songs “Confessions” and “Burn.”

Check out what other celebs had to say about Jermaine Dupri and Ne-Yo’s musical-influence in this red carpet gallery:
