Jill Scott has proven herself as an artist whose music will transcend generations and now she has her sights on set on conquering the film industry. After showing leadership qualities as “Gail” in the movie “Baggage Claim”), it’s no surprise that Jilly from Philly was hand-picked to play one of James Brown’s wives in the upcoming biopic “Get On Up.” According to THR, the role was written specifically for Scott.

The Tate Taylor-directed movie chronicles James’ rise to the “The Godfather of Soul” and the sometimes turbulent behavior: drug addiction, domestic violence and financial struggle that seemed to plague his career. “Get On Up” is stacked with talented thespians. Brown will be played by “42” star Chadwick Boseman and Taylor reunites with the leading ladies from “The Help,” Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer and Academy Award nominee Viola Davis.

So far, “Get On Up” is looking at an Oct. 17, 2014, release. We think Jill is going to nail it!
