“Shots Fired at Capitol Hill” was stamped boldly on the TV screen yesterday and immediately I felt something wasn’t quite right. I sat frozen at my desk, typing away at the details of the attack on Capitol Hill At first, all we knew was that there were shots fired and they were heard around the Hart Sen. Building. Then little by little, we were fed more details. Fingers crossed, I hoped the person wasn’t Black. A few more details later, there was a car chase, starting from a crash into the White House barricade, striking officers and ending near the Capitol, where the suspect was shot and killed. There was a child in the car, Miriam’s one-year-old daughter, Erica. Again, something doesn’t feel quite right.
A few more details later, it’s a woman, then a mother, then finally, a Black woman. Ouch. Maybe I’m partial, but now I am convinced, this just ain’t right. I am an admitted conspiracy theorist and I instantly felt this was what many career theorists call a “False Flag.” My two theories on this are either Miriam is causing a national distraction from the government shutdown or exciting a riot based on the government shutdown’s effects to the American people. I know, these both sound off-the-wall, but most conspiracy theories are.

Carey’s former boss, Barry Weiss of Advanced Periodontics in Hamden, CT has called her “hot tempered,” and claims that Miriam suffered a head injury that landed her in the hospital, where she found out she was pregnant. Carey was then fired from Advanced Periodontics because of her sour attitude, right after giving birth to her daughter. These issues may have piled on to Carey’s shoulders, fueling her postpartum.
Sources are claiming that Carey said that President Obama was stalking her. And when the police went to inspect her home in CT, they found several medications for schizophrenia and other mental disorders.
The authorities are blaming Carey’s actions on postpartum depression. I am no expert in this topic, nor do I know the full extent of its effects, but we’ve all heard the awful stories ending in children being drowned, burned or beaten to death at the hands of a postpartum suffering mother. Carey’s mother,, “She had postpartum depression after having the baby [last August]. A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed. … She was hospitalized.”
When a woman’s fed up, there’s nothing you can do about it. But when a woman is broken, tragedy ensues. Miriam worked as a dental hygienist in Stamford, CT. The people who know Miriam best, knew that she was depressed, but they were all shocked to know the full extent of her mental illness. Miriam’s sister told Washington Post, “That’s impossible. She works, she holds a job. She wouldn’t be in D.C. She was just in Connecticut two days ago, I spoke to her. . . . I don’t know what’s happening. I can’t answer any more.”
Dr. Stephen Oken, Miriam’s boss for over eight years made the statement, “I would never in a million years believe that she would do something like this. It’s the furthest thing from anything I would think she would do, especially with her child in the car. I am floored that it would be her.”
It doesn’t make sense to someone close to Miriam and it doesn’t make sense to me–a complete stranger who watched it all unfold on TV. No one around Miriam knew why she would drive to Washington, D.C. to attempt to crash into the White House. Reports claim that Miriam was never one to rant about politics, so these extreme actions that ended in her death, just don’t make sense.
The whole thing reads like a script from a new Tyler Perry film, “Madea Takes On Washington.” Tyler’s wig-wearin’ character would have done something this absurdly bold–driving up to the White House with the intentions of setting it off because her WIC was cut off, only be a part of a crazy car chase. In Tyler’s movie, Madea would have had her gun in tow and she wouldn’t have died, she would have pistol-whipped a fast-talking cop or two and possibly even gave one of them a whooping.
But this is no comedy. This is real life. Or so they want us to think. Miriam is dead, so there is no questioning her motives. There’s only Capitol Hill police who are heroes because they took out a threat. Was Miriam so impacted by the government shutdown that she wanted to act on it? Was she so broken by postpartum, she just snapped?
Why would someone with no weapon attempt to crash into the White House? While protecting the president’s residence is a top priority, I would think knowing why this person did what they did and better yet, learning more about this attacker was more important that appearing heroic for killing her.
But now that Miriam’s dead, we’re only left with questions that will never be answered. So for now, we’re just going to allow the media to label her a terrorist and leave it at that. I’m not buying it. Are you? Let’s chat @Rhapsodani.
