Shelley Owens, who is White and her fiance, who is Black, were both at work when they received word that their house was on fire. Reports say the fire department was called to Owens’ home in Council Bluffs in Iowa. Her home was ablaze and the “N-word” was spray painted on their walls.

“I’m very angry,” Owens said. “I’m just fortunate that my kids were in school and that we weren’t home.” Owens is categorizing this awful attack as a hate crime because her fiance is Black. That wouldn’t be far-fetched, considering the racial slurs splattered on her walls. SMH. Racism is an issue that’s poised to never go away in our culture and it’s sad. You would think with all the progress Black people have made as a whole, that racism would find itself a non-issue.

But there are people who’s blood boils when they see someone like Shelley, with little mixed children and a Black man by her side.
