Trayvon Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton is still making big moves to honor her late son’s legacy. Her latest effort is an inspirational record with gospel hip-hop artist T-D.O.G.G., called “Joy in the Morning.”
The advocate against gun violence stopped by South Florida radio station Hot 105 to debut the record earlier this week and it’s already received a lot of buzz.
“My name is Sybrina Fulton, and I’m Trayvon Martin’s mother,” she speaks on the track. “I want you to know that we serve a God with no boundaries and no limits.”
“No matter what you do, always know God is in control,” she adds. “You must always stay encouraged and hold your head high. I am glad to know that my angel Trayvon is watching over me and a peace of my heart is in heaven.”
During an interview with WSVN, Fulton said she wasn’t up for singing on the record, she just wanted T-D.O.G.G. to write it.
“I put myself in her shoes and when I did that it was real easy. I felt the hurt. I felt the pain,” T-D.O.G.G said about penning the record. “I went back and watched her segments on TV and said ‘I’m going to step outside of myself and see what she would be feeling,'”
In July, George Zimmerman was acquitted for the shooting death of the Florida teen. Since the trial’s end, Martin’s parents have remained vocal about changing the state’s Stand Your Ground laws.
