Lee Thompson Young shocked the world when he tragically took his own life on August 19, but sources close to the actor said they saw it coming.

According to E! News, the “Famous Jett Jackson” star suffered from a deep depression.

He “didn’t drink or party,” a source told the entertainment site. “He was the opposite. Lee loved to travel and was always the first to tell everyone to take a breath and enjoy the beauty of life.”

The source added that the 29-year-old was “gentle and unassuming,” however things changed with he joined the Africa-based religion Yorùbá.

The Famous Jett Jackson star “took [his religion] to the next level and started wearing white all of the time,” says a source, adding, “This religion was everything to him.” Although he reportedly took a break from practicing Yorùbá, he recently returned to the religion. Just before his death, he visited a small village in Africa for something reportedly related to the religion.

As we reported earlier, Young’s body was found in his Los Angeles home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Law enforcement say the reason behind the death is a “still a mystery,” as he didn’t leave a sucide note.

TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles” paid homage to the former co-star, who played Detective Barry Frost, with an on-air tribute Tuesday night.
