Ebony magazine is paying tribute to Trayvon Martin and his family with a special edition September issue.
The publication printed four separate covers for the “We Are Trayvon” issue, starring the slain teenager’s family and photos of Dwyane Wade, Spike Lee and Boris Kodjoe wearing hooded sweatshirts with their sons.
This groundbreaking issue also includes a poem by Jill Scott, essay by Rev. Al Sharpton, editorial from Columbia University Professor Marc Lamont Hill and an exclusive interview with Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin.
“As a mother of a young Black boy, the tragedy of Travyon Martin affected me deeply. We simply cannot allow the conversations on this issue to come to a standstill,” editor-in-chief Amy Barnett said. “As the leading source for an authoritative perspective on the African-American community, at EBONY we are committed to serving as a hub for Black America to explore solutions, and to giving readers the information and tools they need to help ensure a bright future for all of our children.”
George Zimmerman, Martin’s admitted killer, was recently acquitted of second-degree murder charges.
