Iyanla Vanzant is mostly known as the woman who can singlehandedly fix the life of the most troubled souls roaming the earth. From DMX to Evelyn Lozada, Iyanla has had her healing hands full this year! But she still had time to fix someone else…well, a group of people–Black women. Yes ladies, we need fixing too. Well, according to Iyanla, we’re “out of order.”

Recently at Essence Music Festival, Vanzant claimed at a panel that Black women are out of order. She showed up at the MadameNoire offices to clarify exactly what she meant by that bold statement:

“We have such a rich culture and in that culture, there are roles and purposes and powers. And we live in a society now where women are commodities, where women are demeaned, diminished, demoralized in ways that we accommodate. And if we really understood who we are as feminine representations of the creator of the universe, some of the things that we experience in life — like crying when the unemployed boo boo leaves us — if we really understood who we are, we wouldn’t be so apt to let other people define us and confine us. We are out of order!”

Do we agree with Iyanla?
