Mo Abudu is taking her media life to a whole new level and has created EbonyLife TV, which is set to launch in almost every country on the continent and highlight Africa’s middle class.
Abundu asked people at the London Marble Arch what their thoughts were about Africa, and all she received were negative responses such as poverty, corruption and starving babies. People’s obliviousness towards Africa caused her to leave her career as a human resources executive, and launch her own talk show.

“Not every African woman has a pile of wood on her head and a baby strapped to her back!” the 48-year-old successful talk show host told The Associated Press. She added, “We watch Hollywood as if all of America is Hollywood. In that same vein we need to start selling the good bits of Africa.”
Abundu’s impressive career in television started when she decided in 2006 that she was ready to leave her Human Resources job in 2006 and taught herself how to be a talk show host. Her show, “Moments with Mo” became the first syndicated daily talk show on African regional TV and also is aired in Britain on a Sky TV channel. Abundu has interviewed Hillary Rodham Clinton, former African presidents F. W. de Klerk of South Africa and John Kufuor of Ghana, former England soccer skipper Rio Ferdinand, musician R. Kelly and American fashion icon Diane Von Furstenberg.
Abundu is setting out to transform her vision of Africa by shining a bright light on the so-called “dark continent’s” riches – its super-talented young entrepreneurs, fabulous art scene, up-and-coming fashion designers, provocative authors and sassy musicians. We need a channel like this in the United States!
