Many beauty girls may be intimated by the smoky eye, but when mastered it’s that perfect solution for any occasion. The key to the perfect smokey eye is making sure you spend time blending the light and dark colors of your palette. Colors like purple and gold, and peach and green mix well on any complexion.

MUST READ:  FYI, You Should Skip Foundation This Summer! Here’s How

First, prep your eyelids. To prevent your eyeshadow from melting away into the crease of your eyes, be sure to use a base primer that is oil-free. Swipe the primer across your eye generously. (Bonus Tip: You can also opt to skip your foundation and use a bronzer. I recommend IMAN Bronze Goddess Collection.)

Apply a lot of eyeliner. For a typical black or brown smoky eye, apply liner above the upper lash line and draw a thicker line in the middle of your eye. For a jewel-toned smoky eye, use a purple, blue or deep green liner.

Blend in color on bottom lashes. For the liner on the bottom you’ll want to use a pencil so that you can easily smudge the color. You can also use a q-tip to create depth on the eye. Add a little shadow to create a great Kim Kardashian moment.

Apply a light base color. A cream shade is perfect for your base. The trick is pairing light and dark hues. Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your browbone.

Blend again! Blend in your darker color, but keep dark color below the crease. You’ve applied the base and the eyeliner, now it’s time to create your smoky effect using a darker eyeshadow shade. Take your eyeshadow brush and blend the color starting at your lash line. Be sure to blend in an upward motion and blend the color until the eyeliner disappears.

Overdose on mascara. Apply an obscene amount of mascara so that your lashes look thick, dark and fake.

AND viola you are done!
