The rivalry between tennis stars Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova has moved off the court and officially gotten personal.

During a press conference today, Maria basically called Serena a homewrecker with a married boyfriend that “is getting a divorce and has kids.”

“Obviously I have a tremendous amount of respect for Serena and what she’s achieved on the court. If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids. Talk about other things, but not draw attention to other things.”

Shots fired!

It appears that Russian athlete is responding to her arch nemesis’ recent interview in Rolling Stone – where Serena had some catty words to say about “a top-five player who is now in love.”

“There are people who live, breathe and dress tennis. I mean, seriously, give it a rest,” Serena said, mostly likely referring to Maria who is rumored to be dating her ex-boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov. “She begins every interview with ‘I’m so happy. I’m so lucky’—it’s so boring.”

She added, “She’s still not going to be invited to the cool parties. And, hey, if she wants to be with the guy with a black heart, go for it.”

The female athletes have been in strong competition with each other for years. In 2004, Maria beat Serena in the Wimbledon final. But since that defeat, Serena has won their past 13 matches, including the French Open title two weeks ago.

Wimbledon 2013 starts on Monday and we can already tell it’s going to be a juicy series of games!
